Talk2Otto Terms & Conditions
Last updated: September 27, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Clayton Hodgson, doing business as OttoBotRepair and Talk2Otto ("we", "us") for the Talk2Otto app, the websites Talk2Otto.com and OttoBotRepair.com, the OTTO dongle features, and OTTO, our automotive assistant (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, continuing as a guest, or using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What OTTO is - and is not
- OTTO uses master-technician logic with the power of AI to help you understand what may be wrong with a vehicle and what to check. OTTO gives information and guidance, not a guarantee. A diagnosis made remotely, from codes, sensor readings, photos or your description, can be incomplete or wrong.
- OTTO is not a licensed mechanic, inspector or emissions facility, and does not replace a hands-on inspection. You decide whether, how and by whom a repair is done. For anything involving brakes, steering, airbags, fuel leaks, electrical fires, suspension or anything that affects safe operation, have the vehicle inspected by a qualified professional before driving it.
- Prices, part numbers, specifications, recalls and procedures OTTO shows come from third-party sources and can be out of date. Confirm them before you buy parts or rely on them.
2. Safety - read this
- Never use your phone while driving. Guided tests that involve driving are designed to run on their own with spoken steps; start them while parked, keep your eyes on the road, and only drive where it is safe and legal. Obey all traffic laws.
- Work on a vehicle only if you can do so safely: secure it on level ground, use proper jack stands, let hot parts cool, and disconnect power where appropriate. Stop and get professional help if you are unsure.
- You are responsible for your own safety, your passengers, other road users and your property while following any guidance from the Service.
3. The OTTO dongle and your vehicle
- The dongle reads standard OBD-II information the vehicle makes available (trouble codes, live sensor data, and the vehicle identification number, where the vehicle reports it). Many manufacturer-specific systems cannot be read with a standard dongle.
- Clearing codes turns off the check-engine light and resets the vehicle's emissions readiness monitors. It does not fix the fault, the code may return, and the vehicle may not pass an emissions or state inspection until the monitors complete. Clear codes only if you understand this.
- Plugging a device into your vehicle is at your own risk. Unplug the dongle when you are finished if your vehicle will sit unused, to avoid draining the battery.
4. Accounts, guests and your PIN
- Guests can try OTTO for a limited time without an account. Guest conversations are not kept. The dongle, guided tests and saved history require a free account (your name and email).
- One account works in the Talk2Otto app and on Talk2Otto.com. Keep your email and your 6-digit PIN private; you are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has access.
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.
- You may delete your account at any time from the app (Settings) or the website (Account). Deleting erases your conversations, scans, tests, photos, vehicles and login. We keep only records we are required to keep, such as the amount and date of payments, with no conversation attached.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, abuses the Service, or puts others at risk.
5. Credits, passes, subscriptions and payments
- Paid time with OTTO is sold as passes and a subscription (for example a Day, Week or Month pass, a monthly subscription, or a VIP Year), shown with their price and included credits before you buy. Payments are processed by our secure payment processor; we do not see or store your full card number.
- Pass credits expire at the end of the pass period and have no cash value. Credits cannot be transferred or sold.
- The monthly subscription renews automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account; you keep what you paid for until the end of the period, and no further charges are made.
- All sales are final. We do not give refunds, except where the law requires one. Purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play follow their refund rules.
- OTTO Bucks gift codes are redeemable for credits only, are not cash, and are void where prohibited.
6. Your content and how we use it
- You keep ownership of what you send us (messages, photos, files, vehicle data). You give us permission to store and process it to provide the Service to you, to keep it safe, and to improve OTTO's diagnostic quality. How we handle personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.
- Do not upload anything you do not have the right to share, or anything illegal, harmful or offensive. Do not use the Service to harass anyone.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to: misuse or overload the Service; try to get into accounts or data that are not yours; copy, scrape or resell the Service or OTTO's answers; reverse engineer the app except where the law allows; or use the Service for anything unlawful.
7A. You assume the risk
You use the Service, follow its guidance, plug in the dongle, drive during guided tests, and work on any vehicle entirely at your own risk. To the fullest extent the law allows, you release us from all claims, known or unknown, arising from those activities, including claims for vehicle damage, repair costs, towing, lost time, injury or property damage, and claims based on guidance that turned out to be wrong or incomplete.
8. No warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not promise the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any diagnosis, estimate or instruction is correct or complete.
9. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, vehicle damage, repair costs, towing, injury or property damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Service, including guidance you chose to follow. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 6 months before the claim. These limits apply even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose and even if we were told the damage was possible. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you; where they do not, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law allows.
10. Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, damages and costs (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from your use or misuse of the Service, your breach of these terms, your driving, or any work you perform or have performed on a vehicle, including claims brought by your passengers, other road users or anyone else.
11. Changes
We may update the Service and these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in the State of Texas, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.
- Talk to us first. Before bringing any claim, email us and give us 30 days to try to resolve it.
- Individual claims only. Any claim must be brought in your individual capacity, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative action, and a court may not combine your claim with anyone else's.
- No jury. To the extent the law allows, you and we waive any right to a jury trial.
- One year. Any claim must be filed within one year after it arose, or it is permanently barred.
- If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect, and that part is enforced to the greatest extent the law allows.
13. Apple and Google
If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play: these terms are between you and us, not Apple or Google, who are not responsible for the app or its support. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you as they relate to the iOS app.
